Friday Fill Ins

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week! My week was fine, I guess, but it's all hindsight as I am looking forward to my three day weekend!! Anyone else have a three day weekend to enjoy?? I know it's Labor Day and most workplaces close for that, but I also know not everyone works in a place that gets to take advantage of holidays, and some of you I'm sure have jobs that don't give you time off at all, like all the moms and dads out there.  In a past life I worked at Blockbuster and I worked every holiday known to man.  Not kidding.  I worked at least two Thanksgivings and two Christmases in a row.  The bonus was that my coworkers would bring me some of the yummy food from their family feasts.  This was when my parents had already moved to South Carolina, so I didn't have a holiday meal to look forward to before or after my shifts. But enough about that, let's fill in the blank!

Each week Hilary at Feeling Beachie posts four statements on her blog that we take to our own blogs and complete in our own way.  She's always looking for co-hosts of this fun hop so please e-mail her suggestions for statements at  Now click the button below to go to Hilary's blog and play along.  :)

This week's statements:

1. I love to ___ but hate to ___.
2. ___ makes my day better.
3. They didn't think I could ___ but I did.
4. Warning: ___!

My answers:

1. I love to have a clean house but hate to clean it.  I haven't read any of the other links on the linky yet, but something tells me this might be a popular answer.
2. Seeing the faces of those I love makes my day better.
3. They didn't think I could fill in this statement but I did.  Sorry, I couldn't think of anything!!
4. Warning: contents under pressure!

1 is the lonliest number...

So I weighed in on Saturday and I was only one pound down from the previous week.  Not fun.  But I am still pretty proud of myself considering I had a total fail of a week.

It all started with a retreat for work.  It was a leadership training of sorts.  It was awesome, but that's beside the point.  There was food.  And wine.  I actually didn't crazily go over my calorie intake, but I did go over.  I also missed working out 2 days.  Shame on me.  But it was hard.  I was out of town pretty much all day Tuesday and then most of the day Wednesday.  Came home and crashed on the couch.  I did pick up for the rest of the week though, and unfortunately had a work meeting, complete with more food, on Friday.  Another fail day.

Saturday and Sunday I did not exercise and I ate crap food, while still staying within my calories though.  Really didn't leave myself much room for mistakes this week, that's for sure.

The good news is I feel like crap after I eat crap food.  How is that good? Because it makes me not want it anymore.  It makes me realize that eating broccoli is better than eating french fries, my body is telling me so and I need to listen to it.  I can't even begin to tell you how awful I felt after drinking a couple glasses of wine and eating rich foods.  I felt like I had lead in my stomach.  Not fun.

So I'm still here.  Seven pounds down in four weeks.  Wish it was 8 but it is what it is.  I'm still motivated and still feeling good.  Slowly but surely I'm feeling better about myself.  I can't wait to do my measurements again this weekend and see my progress!

Crazy weather day...

Our offices ended up closing early today due to extreme torrential rain and flooding.  The image below was taken from our local Live 5 News website of some kayakers rowing through the open air market of downtown Charleston where handmade goods are sold.  Holy moly!!

Check here for more images of the rain and flooding... Live 5 News

This is all I've got to say...

Classes begin in just a short while... September 5 for me and September 17 for Brad.  We're each taking two classes and hopefully we can manage on just one computer without driving each other crazy!

Monday's Music Moves Me - Spotlight!!

I'm so excited to have been chosen as today's spotlight dancer for this fun hop and I feel like a total bonehead for having not posted sooner.  Crazy day today and finally getting around to some ME time!

Xmas Dolly

So this week's theme is music from the year you graduated high school! Fun!!!! Not saying I love all these songs, but it does bring back some radio/MTV memories! It's hard to pick just a few so I picked A LOT! I was very into music back then, I still am, but I would listen to music almost non stop back then.

I'm not sure anyone could have guessed what the future had in store for Britney.
I've always been a fan of Cristina, can't wait for The Voice to start back up!
1999 definitely ranked high on the cheese-o-meter!
 Love the Goo Goo Dolls!
I never listened to Backstreet Boys back then but for some reason I can not get this song out of my head now.
I love listening to this song on 90s on 9!
These lyrics have good meaning behind them.
This is another 90s on 9 favorite.
 Who didn't love Smooth?
Can anyone hear this song without wanting to turn off the TV or change the channel?
I probably have not heard this song since 1999.
Hahahaha! I'm a Jennifer so this was always a fun one.
Something about this song makes me feel warm.  Every thing is going to be alright.
I actually didn't hear this song back in '99, I heard it for the first time a few years ago and I absolutely love it! Was happy when I saw it on the list.  :)
 Another fun one!
This was big our senior year.  Unfortunately it was also used at one of our classmates funerals a few years later.  Sarah McLachlan knows how to make you cry!
I remember driving around with my friend Jess listening to this.
 Another 90s on 9 favorite!!

Monday Quiz About Me

Hi there! Join me this week for Monday Quiz About Me hosted by Heather at Acting Balanced.  Each week she posts four questions on her blog for us to take to our blogs and answer.  Then you have the option of posting a fifth question on your blog for your readers to answer.  A fun twist on the every day Q&A.  Click the button below to head over to Heather's blog and play along.

Acting Balanced

1. When was the last time you tried something new?

I try to try something new at every convenient, opportune moment.  For example, I'm not going to try a new ethnic restaurant the day before I have to travel.  That might not end well.  But I might try it when I'm going out for a random lunch or dinner.  But that's beside the point, when is the last time I tried something new? Probably a week or so ago when I tried a new workout routine.  Didn't go so well, see here.

2. What's a belief you hold with which many people disagree?

I'm pro-life.

3. What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Almost any.  There is probably at least one song in every genre that I could listen to again and again.  However, I cannot sit down and listen to rap or hip hop repeatedly the way I probably could other types.  In fact, Modern Rap is probably my worst category on Song Pop.

4. What piece of advice would you give to a beginning blogger?

Don't be intimidated, just do your thing.  There are lots of people out there that give you the "how to's" and stuff and it can be very intimidating.  The fact of the matter is, it's your blog, it's your voice, do what you need to do and have fun with it.

And my question for you is:

Do you have any experience with a memory foam bed? Good/bad?

We're in the market for a new bed and I'm seriously thinking memory foam since a friend of mine is in love with her Tempur Pedic.  Not sure I can afford one of those, so I'm shopping around.  I can't stand another horrible night of sleep.

Shot Tales: Flowertown

I couldn't tell you where I got the glass I'm featuring today, but I can tell you that this is where I live! They call my town "Flowertown"... as if "Summerville" isn't whimsical enough! It's mainly due to all the azaleas, and the Flowertown Festival each Spring.

The scene on the glass, which come to realize is a tad blurry, is from Azalea Park.  It's about 5 minutes from my house and so pretty in the Spring.  It's pretty all the time, but in the Spring when the azaleas are in bloom it is even prettier.  Some of our wedding photos were taken in azalea park.  Pretty sweet looking pair there, don't you think?

If you ever watch the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, then you may have seen the episode where he went to Perfectly Franks, a hot dog place in Summerville, very close to my house.  I finally made it over there to eat earlier this month and it was delicious! Who knew there were so many ways to top a hot dog?

This shot glass is special because it represents home to me.  It's where I live and it's so pretty.

Pondering With a Purpose: Hot

I am so behind but I am glad that I am actually in the right place at the right time and can post this Thursday hop on Thursday! So while I'm not catching up, I'm at least on time with one thing!!

This hop is the brainchild of Brenda Youngerman.  Each week she posts a topic or a question for us to take to our blogs and ponder.  This week the topic is "hot"... weather hot! Click the button below to play along.

Do I like hot weather? Not so much.

When it's winter, yeah, I wish it was summer.  When it's summer I wish it was winter.  Isn't that just the way it goes?

When do I like it hot? When I'm in the pool.  When I'm laying on a towel or blanket or on a chair wanting to soak up some sun.  Those times, when I want it, it's all good.  But give me the heat when I have to pull weeds or do something physical outside and I will crawl into my AC vent to avoid the outdoors.

Our AC went out some time in the past year.  It may have been spring or fall, I can't remember.  I know it wasn't summer because I would have moved out.  It was HOT.  We had the ceiling fans on and bought a stand up fan too.

When I lived in New York we didn't have central air.  I know it wasn't nearly as hot in New York as it gets in South Carolina, but I just don't know how I lived.  I know that sounds crazy.  I know there are people here in South Carolina who do not have air conditioning.  I know I sound like a snob.  I can't help it.  It's like a whole different world here in terms of temperature.  We get the heat extreme, New York gets the cold extreme.  I couldn't live in New York without a heater just like I couldn't live in South Carolina without AC.

With that being said, I am extremely thankful that I have the opportunity to have AC.  I know there are so many less fortunate than me and although I had my snobby little rant about needing AC, I understand there are people living in their cars or tents or without any shelter at all, and I feel awful for them.  If I could reach out and help every single one of them I would.  I absolutely would.  The organization I work for has some programs for homeless in Columbia, SC.  I was there one day and I was talking to this lady who was also from New York.  We talked for a good 30 minutes and when I mentioned being from the Charleston office she said that she always wanted to go there.  I almost took her home with me! I would have! I kept thinking, "you've got a spare room."  But I know that when it comes to work and volunteering, there is a line we can't cross.  Brenda, I know you can relate to this!

So no, I don't like my weather hot and I am thankful for the opportunity to control that.  :)

Back at One

Last week I got myself all psyched up to go to level two of the 30 Day Shred.  I felt I was ready for a new challenge and indeed I was.  What I wasn't ready for was the plank position.

It wasn't that I was writhing in pain or anything like that.  I just couldn't stay still enough to not fall down.  I am apparently not coordinated enough to resume this position for more than a few seconds which makes it quite complicated to do various exercises in level two.  Call me clumsy!

I am a fighter though.  I push through things just so I can say I can do it or have done it.  So believe me when I say I gave it my all.  I think the fact that I've nearly mastered level one of the shred is proof enough of that.  The plank position just kicked my butt.

So I'm back at level one.  I figured it was better to get a full workout at a lower level than a partial workout at an upper level.  In my spare time I'm going to work on the plank position.  I'm going to try to stick it and keep my balance so at some point I can move on to level two.  I didn't feel like I accomplished enough or worked out hard enough the few days I did level two since the plank position was a key part.  But I always feel like I have gotten a good workout when I do level one.

I am not discouraged, I'm actually happy I made the decision to take a step back.  I think it's very important for us to recognize when we have a good thing going, even if it keeps us someplace longer than we'd like, as long as we're still making progress overall.  And I lost another two pounds last week so I know I'm still making progress.

Since starting this new chapter three weeks ago I'm down six pounds and I'm so happy about that.  I've never began a fitness plan and seen steady results like these.  It's always been a yo-yo effect.  Life is good.

Monday Quiz About Me

Happy Monday! Today was actually a reasonable Monday.  Reasonable.  Not great, as it was a Monday, but not terrible.  A miracle in itself.

So here is some a Monday quiz.  Click the button below to hop over to Acting Balanced and play along.

Acting Balanced

1. If you found a $100 on the floor at the mall, what would you do?

I'd like to say I'd look around and see if anyone is looking for it, maybe ask customer service... but in all honesty, if you ask someone if they lost $100 cash, there is a pretty good chance anyone you ask will say yes so they can get the cash.  So this is a hard one.  It's not like you can ask them to confirm the serial number or anything.  Even a dishonest customer service person might take it and keep it.

2. What is the one thing a friend could do that you would consider ending your friendship upon finding out?

Any form of betrayal.

3. When was the last time you've had to say you're 'sorry'?

I probably end up saying I'm sorry for one reason or another every day.  Not always something major, but because I bumped something or someone, got in the way, etc... I'm a bit clumsy.

4. In your words, define "perfect".

I think being perfect is being at peace, whatever that means to you.

And my fifth question for you...

Do you like to drive?

I do like to drive.  I like vacation road trips.  I like my trips to Columbia or Beaufort for work when it's just me in the car, singing along to the radio.   I don't like when I have to do it over and over again (Columbia twice this week and three times next month!) but I do enjoy driving on the highway.

Monday's Music Moves Me

Linking up for some Monday's Music Moves Me! Click the button below to head over to Xmas Dolly and sing and dance along! I like the free weeks because it's interesting to see what everyone picks!

I've been a big fan of the Goo Goo Dolls for as long as I can remember.  One of my most favorite songs by them is Iris.  It came out with the movie City of Angels and I believe that's what made it popular, but I would have found it with or without that movie.  Pretty sad movie I might add.  About 9 years ago my sister Kerry got me tickets to see the Goo Goo Dolls at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach.  It was such a great concert! It is weird to say that was 9 years ago, seems like it was only a year or so ago.  Johnny Rzeznik is an amazing singer!!

Shot Tales: Old Town

Back to Florida for this week's shot tales. This is Old Town.  It's an old town.  Not really, it's like an amusement park type place.  Kind of.  There are shops, restaurants, arcade places, some rides.  They also do car shows pretty regularly, I think on weekend evenings.  I'm sure the next time we're in Florida Brad will want to take his Challenger over there.

We have been to Old Town quite a few times during our trips to Florida.  My mother-in-law loves the quarter Pepsi's they have in the General Store, though I think they are up to fifty cents now.  I love the shot glasses, of course.

The lighting isn't great in this photo, but the one on the left is a mini old fashioned Coca Cola glass.  Not Old Town specific except that I bought it there.

Looking back, the Fort Worth Stockyards in Texas remind me a lot of Old Town, the way it's set up, the shops.  Yep, more tourist traps! I love a good tourist trap.

If you want more Shot Tales, check them out here!

Four Fill-in Fun

To say August has been a crazy month for me would be an understatement.  I used to have spare time.  Whether it be at work or at home, it was there.  Time to do little things here and there like blog, read, or watch TV.  I'm not completely sure where that time went since I don't feel like I've run out.  Maybe that's a good thing?

Regardless of the time thing, I am doing great.  Work is great.  Home is great.  Life is great.  My new co-worker and I are still getting along beautifully.  My fitness plan is still going without a hitch.  Things are good.  Of course, classes begin September 5th and I'm sure all hell will break loose then!

So here is some Friday fill-in fun, a day late, just my style.  :)  Each week Hilary at Feeling Beachie lists four fill-in statements on her blog.  We take them to our blog and fill them in.  She's always looking for co-hosts so if you have suggestions for some statements, e-mail them to her at  Now click the button below to play along.

This week's statements:

1. I ___ so much ___ in a day.
2. I don't like ___ but I love ___.
3. When I watch ___ I ___.
4. I have ___ in my wallet.

My answers:

1. I wish I could get so much sleep in a day.  I love to sleep!
2. I don't like to wake up early but I love to start a productive day real early.
3. When I watch my dog play by herself I wish she had another puppy playmate.  Doesn't seem to bother her though.
4. I have a bunch of cards in my wallet.  Not all credit cards! Only one of those, but tons of grocery store and drug store cards, gift cards, membership cards, etc...

Pondering With A Purpose: Life or Living

Brad is out fishing.  He gave me homework.  The new Expendables movie came out in theaters and my homework is to watch the first movie so I will want to go see the second one.  It's on but I'm not paying much attention.  I thought it would be funnier.  Usually when they bring a bunch of popular actors together for a movie, whether it's an action movie or a drama or whatever, it's a little bit funny.  I'm not laughing.  It's probably a good man action movie, but I'd rather be catching up on my blogging...

So this week Brenda is presenting us with some deep thoughts for Pondering with a Purpose.  :)  Are we living our life? Or is our life our living? Where are we at with our master plan... Click the button below to head over to Brenda's blog and join the conversation.

I like to think I'm living my life.  I'm sure there was a time, and that there are still times, where my life was/is my living.  But for the most part I believe I am on the right track in my plan for myself.  Yes, there are times when life sucks, but you learn from it and you move on.  It can only hold you back if you let it.

I'm happy with my place in life.  Brad and I are doing well.  We have a house, cars, jobs, pets, family, and all the things that we need.  Do we want more? Of course, who doesn't? But we're happy with where we're at and we progress when we can.  We are responsible for the things that we have and we can be proud of that.

And by "things" and "wanting more" I don't necessarily mean material things.  I mean any things in life... education, career, stuff, etc.

Healthy Couponing?

I am off work today for the Feast of the Assumption.  Too bad I can't spend it relaxing! I have a water deliver, the bug guy, the cable guy, and the couch guy all coming this morning.  Watch them all show up at the same time.  Glad I know how to multi-task and point!

The shred is going well.  I have skipped a total of two days since I began it at the end of July.  Pretty darn good if you ask me.  I started level 2 last night and it is challenging!! It seems to work a set of my upper body muscles, mostly arms, that I have not really worked hard before.  A lot of it is done in the plank position (kind of like a taller push-up position) and I feel like I'm either going to topple over or break.  Fortunately I'm not terribly sore today, which either means I didn't do it right, I didn't do it hard enough, or my endurance is getting better.  I'm going to go with a combination of the three! :)  I sure did sweat so I know something was happening.  I am feeling a difference all over and I can't wait for the one month check!

I love to coupon.  I love to shop sales.  I love leaving the grocery store and having saved $25+ on things I actually need.  But how does one coupon when on a diet? I was going through my coupons this morning and throwing away the ones that were expired (and that I clipped pre-diet) and realized that soooo many of the coupons I had were for processed foods I'm avoiding now.  Even when I looked through the recent circulars, most of the coupons were for things in a box or a can.  I still eat some of that, but I'm not sure it's enough to get my major grocery store savings.

How do you shop healthy and still save?

Monday Quiz About Me

Happy Monday! I'm excited I found two fun hops for Monday, kind of takes the edge off the whole "Monday" thing.  Here is this week's Meet Me On Monday post.  This is a fun hop where you can make up your own question as number 5! Totally fun way to participate.  Click the button below to hop on over to Acting Balanced and play along.  I'll be back to hop later on!

Acting Balanced

1. How was your weekend?

2. What is your favorite kind of candy?

3. If I say the word "high" what do you think?

I think of the phrase "if they say 'jump' you say 'how high?'"  It's been a frequent one of mine lately!!

4. What are you most looking forward to about Autumn?

Cooler temperatures! I don't even care if it is just 5 degrees cooler.

And my fifth question for you...

What was/is your favorite school subject?

For me, it's definitely psychology.  Hence the reason I'm pursuing a degree in that field!

Music Monday

I'm hopping on the train again this week for some Monday's Music Moves Me.  I've decided I'm meant to participate in this hop.  My first Music Monday post was two weeks ago, I decided I wanted to do some music posts so I started my little Monday Music thing and then Cathy from Cathy Kennedy's blog came over and suggested I hop on the train.  I had already scheduled a few posts for future Mondays, complete with songs and anecdotal little tales, so I was a little apprehensive about how I would incorporate my existing posts into the hop.  Well, turns out I haven't had to change much! Last week was a free post, so my scheduled post fit right in, and this week is a country theme.  Turns out the post I had scheduled for today was a country song as well! What luck??

Click the button below to hop on over to Xmas Dolly, the blog hosting the hop.  These are some really great people and a very interactive hop, so if you're looking for some folks to welcome you with warm, open arms, this is the hop to join. I've got to help the husband cook dinner (yes, he cooks dinner while I'm blogging) and then I'll be back later to hop!

This song is a more recent favorite of mine.  And by more recent I mean within the past 5 years, as opposed to some of the songs from my life in the 90s.  Growing up, I was never a fan of country music.  In fact, until I moved to South Carolina, I totally loathed it.  It's still kind of weird for me to love a country song, but what can I say? I heard this song a few weeks ago for the first time in a long time and the love story in it made me tear up.  I'm very lucky to have found a love like the one in the song.

Shot Tales: Planet Hollywood

I've always been intrigued by the look of Planet Hollywood restaurants. The one I visited in Myrtle Beach had a neat staircase going in that was sort of like a tunnel.  You can see it in the link above actually.

Brad and I went to Planet Hollywood with a couple friends of mine, JR and BP.  JR and BP have been out to eat with me before so they reminded me to pick up my shot glass on the way out.  I had a salad and the presentation was really neat! The plate/bowl came, you know one of those very shallow bowls that looks like it doesn't know if it wants to be a plate or a bowl? And on it was a clear cylinder filled with layers of my salad.  The object of the game is to pull the cylinder off the plate, and your salad collapses perfectly tossed onto your plate.  It might sound lame but it was rather entertaining!

I didn't get a picture of the cool planet shaped building because the weather was not cooperating.  It decided it wanted to pour and then hail on us.  In May no less.  I'm not sure I will ever fully accept the phenomena that is hail in the HOT South Carolina months.  It was like 80-90 degrees that day for crying out loud!

Later on we went to a mall and walked around the shops at Broadway at the Beach.  Aside from the heat, rain, hail, and ridiculous humidity that followed, we had a great day!

If you want more Shot Tales, check them out here!

Down another 2!

I'm so thrilled that when I weighed in this morning I was down another 2 lbs! That brings the total to 4 lbs in two weeks.  I am excited because it's motivating! There is nothing worse than changing your lifestyle and not seeing results of said change, no matter what it is.  This has been instant gratification from the very beginning and it motivates me to continue.

I was actually a little worried to weigh in this morning.  Last week I had a day when I didn't work out, and that same day I went over my daily calories by 500!! I decided I needed to have a taco salad from Moe's, which would not have been bad if I didn't eat the 500 calorie shell! So I'm happy my bad day didn't thwart my progress.

This evening we have a birthday party to go to and I'm almost certain Brad's aunt will be making a cake for said party.  I love her cakes.  She made our wedding cake.  If you've caught some of my posts and comments lately, I'm kind of obsessed with cake lately!! So I've decided if there is cake I will have a tiny piece, that's all I need to savor the flavor.  I can't wait!!

Of course, since I'm prepping for this, there will probably not be any cake...

Follow Friday Four Fill-in Fun! (Or F to the 5th Power)

Greetings! Had a great week! Exhausting, but great! Work has gotten so much better now that I have a helping hand.  And my new officemate is great!! Things are going so well, I feel very optimistic about the future.

So here it is, my favorite Friday hop!! Hilary at Feeling Beachie hosts this fun hop.  She posts four fill-in statements, we take them to our blog and complete them.  She's always looking for co-hosts so e-mail her suggestions at! Click the button below to find out what all the fun is about!

This week's statements:

1. When I was little my mom ___.
2. ___ is my favorite condiment.
3. I don't like to celebrate ___ because ___.
4. My ___ takes up more space ___ and I can never ___.

My answers:

1. When I was little my mom would never let me stay home from school.  She was a nurse so she could call my bluff from a mile away!
2. Chick-Fil-A's Polynesian Sauce is my favorite condiment.  Too bad it's so far off my diet's radar it might as well be on another planet!
3. I don't like to celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day because I think mothers and fathers should be honored every day!
4. My husband takes up more space on the bed than me and I can never get comfortable!

Being the slacker that I am, I'll be hopping along tomorrow! I want to make sure I have time for good, thoughtful comments and not hasty ramblings!!

Pondering With a Purpose - Goals

Each week I like to join Brenda for her Pondering With a Purpose hop.  She poses a question or a topic and we all ponder it.  Click the button below to see what all the fun is about!

Think on Thursday

This week she asks: do you set goals for yourself that are unattainable? Or, do you set goals and then beat yourself up when you don't reach them?

I'm not sure that I've ever set an unattainable goal for myself.

I know what you're thinking: Yeah right! Everyone sets unattainable goals!

At first when I read the question, I was like "yeah I do!"  But then I thought about it more.  I thought about some of the goals I set for myself and realize that the goals I strive for aren't unattainable, I just lose the drive to accomplish them and that's what makes them unattainable.  It's me, not the goals.

Ok, maybe I've thought about being high school skinny again.  That would be unattainable since my body has changed greatly since then and no I don't want to look like the lanky kid I did back then and it would probably never, ever happen again anyway.  I haven't really ever set that as a goal though, it's more of something I may whine about when I'm feeling fat.

The goals I set for myself today are attainable, but like I said, I sometimes lose the drive to keep charging towards them.  And I do beat myself up over it.  I don't think I'm beating myself up over not meeting the goal though.  I think I'm beating myself up because I let myself lose the motivation to continue.

My most recent goal is my fitness goal.  I'm happy to say that I'm about two weeks in and I'm still going strong.  I'm still eating rabbit food and exercising.  This is a feat in itself as I've typically already given in to temptation by now.  What's amazing is I feel as though I've cleansed myself.  I have no desire for the crap food I used to eat.  I want cake like you have no idea, but I bet if I ate that cake I'd feel terrible.  Physically, not mentally.  Last weekend, after a week straight of eating real healthy foods, I had white rice with dinner.  I thought I was going to blow up like a balloon, I sure felt like it! It goes to show that when you put your mind and your body to something, you can achieve it, things change! And they change quickly.

So to make a long story short (too late!), I think it's me who has been the unattainable one in my relationship with goals.  I don't let myself go and put all my heart and soul into the goals that I set for myself.  Until now! Things are changing people!! :)

Meet Me On Monday

Here is another week of Meet Me On Monday fun! Click the button below to head over to Acting Balanced and play along.

Acting Balanced

1. Where do you go to get your news?

I usually check the four local news websites from my cell while I'm waiting for Brad to get off work in the afternoon.  If I hear of something interesting during the day, I'll go to their full web pages from work, but usually it's the mobile sites.

2. What Olympic level skill do you have?

I'm a record breaking whiner.  I am seriously so good at it, it's sickening.

3. If I say the word 'intellectual', what do you think?

I don't know why but all that pops into my head right now is Sherlock Holmes.  Call it exercise brain.

4. Who in your family do you look most like?

I have no idea.  I have three sisters and some people say one or two of us look alike, but it's never the same two.  I have my mom's pale Irish skin... couldn't I have gotten my dad's dark Italian skin? I think I have my mom's blue eyes.  The rest is up for grabs!

And my fifth question for all of you to answer:

How often do you change your bed sheets?

I try to do it once a week, usually to avoid folding a set that just came out of the dryer.  ;)

Music Monday

I'm going to give a new Monday hop a shot... Monday's Music Moves Me.  Since I decided last week I was going to make some "Music Monday" posts and Cathy from Cathy Kennedy's Blog hopped over and suggested I join the hop she participates in and co-conducts, I figured why not give it a shot? Click the button below to head over to XmasDolly's blog where she hosts this hop every week.

Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger brings me back to my teens! I remember having the cassette single and playing it over and over again.  Today I have the CD but haven't listened to it in a very long time.  It actually came up on Song Pop and brought back memories.  The song really reminds me of an old friend, Jen P., we used to listen to this and sing along.  We had a lot of fun.  Her dream car was a convertible Volkswagen Rabbit, like the one in Can't Buy Me Love.  She finally found one and bought it and man it was the biggest piece of garbage! It was so much fun though.  I remember breaking down on a main road, in the turning lane for the mall.  It was funny and embarrassing at the same time.  I haven't seen or heard from Jen P. in more than 10 years, every once in a while I look her up on Facebook, but no hits so far!

I lost!

Last Saturday I took my measurements and weighed myself.  I got down all my starting figures so I could track my progress.  I told myself NOT to weigh in after the first week.  I know it can be motivating to weigh in weekly, but I was so afraid that, like every other time I've attempted to lose weight, I'd see no results and lose my motivation.  You can't erase an increase on the scale from your memory, especially after making many changes to your lifestyle.

Well, a switch flipped in my head and I decided that I had to know if this past week was worth it.  Don't get me wrong, I feel good.  I've enjoyed the food I've been eating.  Cleaning out my cabinets was liberating.  But I wanted to make sure I was on the right path before I proceeded through another week of it.

And it was! I'm down 2 lbs! Holy crap!! I seriously can't remember the last time I've purposely lost 2 lbs.  Usually I just weigh in periodically when I'm not even dieting and the scale will go up and down.  But this was totally awesome!!

My scale is one of those ones with the dial.  I want a digital one.  I know that is better for weight loss as it shows the decimals so even if I don't lose a full pound, I might lose .2 lbs and that will be better to see than no change.  So that's my next purchase.

I also completed one full week (7 days) of the 30 Day Shred! I've never made it this far in a row before, I always end up taking a day off and whining about it.  So I'm just thrilled. And of course I did it today so that makes 8!

Not sure how I'm going to reward myself for these two accomplishments yet.  In the past I'd usually reward myself with something food related, like dinner out or desert, but that's kind of counterproductive.

When I did my workout today, I decided to play music on my iPod.  It was a good idea because it made the already quick 20 minute workout even faster.  I put it on shuffle and it was interesting going from The Beatles to Fleetwood Mac to Lady Gaga.  As I was finishing up, Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" came on and it was inspiring.  If you've ever heard the song and really listened to the lyrics, you'll know why.

Granted the lyrics are deeper than fitness, but the bottom line is, if  you want things to change you've got to look at yourself first.

What is a fun way you reward yourself for the little big things?

Shot Tales: Tommy Condon's

Keeping it close to home this week at Tommy Condon's Irish Pub.  The first time I went to Tommy Condon's was with a friend of mine.  There was a band there, and I can't remember the name now, but they were great! They sang some Irish songs and some classic rock songs.  It was a very amusing evening.  We went back a few times.

I've been there a few times over the years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.  They have these Irish Nachos that are basically cheesy potatoes.  Potato cubes with cheese, ranch, bacon, jalapenos, green onions, and tomatoes.  They were amazing.  Tommy Condon's was actually the first place I'd ever had such a dish.  They are like cheese fries, but the fact that they are cubed makes it easier to eat them with a fork and thus less messy!

If you're ever in Charleston, I definitely recommend stopping by Tommy's for a bite and a beer!

If you want more Shot Tales, check them out here!

Happy Friday!

What a day! I finally had the opportunity to be a little lazy after work today.  First off, I didn't have to wait for Brad to get off work at 6 before I went home because we drove separately today so he could go fishing with the guys.  So when I was off work at 5, I was off! And I had salad for dinner so I didn't have to cook, that saved some time too! Aside from about 20 minutes of the 30 Day Shred workout, I've been bumming it and loving it!

On to my favorite Friday blog hop! Each week Hilary from Feeling Beachie posts four fill in the blank statements on her blog.  Take them to your blog, fill them in, and link up! It's fun!! Click the button below to play along.

This week's statements:

1. I have no desire ___.
2. I love the smell of ___ because ___.
3. I wish that my ___ would magically ___.
4. In one month I ___.

My answers:

1. I have no desire to do anything else this evening.  I think my workout was plenty thankyouverymuch.
2. I love the smell of Brad's cologne/deodorant when he's not home because it reminds me of him.  It's the residue, you know? The scent that's lingering in the air.  I miss him when he's not at home.  I like having the house to myself, but I long for his company.
3. I wish that my chub would magically disappear.  That way I can quit exercising and eating rabbit food.
4. In one month I hope I see the results of all this hard work! Can you tell what's on my mind? That's what I get for filling this in right after I've completed my workout.

Pondering With a Purpose: Legacy

Day five of the 30 Day Shred is complete.  I'm trying to think back and remember if I made it this far the last time.  I'm sure I made it past day 5, but in a row? I'm feeling pretty good about myself! It still burns when I do it, but fortunately the after-burn is subsiding and the following day, leading up to the next grueling session, all is well.  Makes me happy!

So on to Pondering With a Purpose! Each week Brenda comes up with a topic for us to take to our blogs and write about.  It's nice to think about things you wouldn't ordinarily think about, or to talk about things you do think about but just don't have a platform for.  Click the button below to head over to Brenda's blog and ponder with us!

Think on Thursday

This week's topic is legacy... what do you want to be remembered for?

I want to be remember for my compassion.  I'm hoping that when I'm FINALLY done with school, all the future years of it, that I'll be able to make a profound impact on the lives of the people I work with.  I'm going to school for psychology, and I plan to get a master degree at the very least but hopefully one day a doctorate as well.  So I know that I will have the opportunity to touch lives beyond the lives of my friends and family and I hope it makes a difference.  It will make all the courses and the studying and the writing and the tests and all the MONEY(!!!!!!) spent worth it.

Shred Update

I am proud to say that I have been faithful to the 30 Day Shred.  I'll admit there were times (in the whole 3 days I've done it so far) when I haven't wanted to do it, but I stuck with it.

Day one was difficult.  I had forgotten how tough it was.  I just remembered "fun" and "20 minutes".  Yeah... it's fun if you like pain and it's 20 minutes if you aren't dying 3 minutes into it, then it seems like forever.

What was worse than day one itself was the after-burn from day one.  Stepping down a step and sitting was painful because apparently I have muscles in my legs I wasn't aware of.

The after-burn made day two a little difficult but the good thing is all the sore spots just go numb so you can't feel anything.

Day three hurt but it hurt less.

The good news is, it's day four and I have very little after-burn.  I haven't done my workout today yet, so maybe I'll be taking this back later on, but I haven't been having the sitting/stepping problems I was yesterday and the day before.  Things are looking up!

You'd think finding the time to do a 20 minute workout would be a piece of cake.  It's not.  Until I start to love exercising again, there is no "good" time to do it.  But, the fact that it is only 20 minutes is enough motivation to get me to do it.

I've been pretty busy in the evenings since I've been dieting and actually preparing meals from scratch (rather an calling in an order or opening a box/bag).  Not to mention the Olympics! So by the time I realize I haven't exercised yet, it's late and I whine that I don't want to do it.  Then I remind myself of the whole 20 minute thing and am forced to get over it.  20 minutes is less than the episode of Friends I will surely watch when I get in bed, so no excuses.

The diet has been going well.  I've been staying within my limits and staying full.  Which is good because I hate being hungry.  I did have a piece of cake today at work for a co-worker's birthday, but it was tiny which is very out of character for me, but it was good!

So things are going well and I'm feeling good which is great.  I'm glad I'm feeling positive.  It would really stink to be three days in and hating it because that is no motivation!

Oh, the memories

Do you know what this is?

While I was browsing for funny weight loss/gym pictures I stumbled upon this picture and could not let it go unnoticed.

It was always my favorite time of year in grade school.  I remember the gym being set up as a small scale town complete with stop lights, stop signs, railroad crossings, and school zones.  I remember rolling through with my friends and having so much fun, probably not at all paying attention to or recognizing the purpose of the exercise.
